The Soma Institute manages an exciting internship program. You will have an opportunity to work in our on-campus Clinic where you will work directly with the public under the guidance of faculty supervisors.
You will also have the unique opportunity to perform sports massage with NCAA Division 1 athletes at Loyola University. This fast-paced athletic training environment provides you with invaluable faculty-supervised field experience. Interning is an opportunity for advanced-level students to gain invaluable experience in the field and to build skills and confidence.

CLINICAL MASSAGE THERAPY DIPLOMA PROGRAM – CREDIT HOUR
The Soma Institute is planning to offer a Credit Hour Clinical Massage Therapy Diploma Program starting in August 2017. Soma's 54.66 quarter credit hour program (750 clock hours in class) will be offered in two schedule options – a day schedule (50 weeks) and an evening-weekend schedule (64 weeks). The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) has approved Soma's quarter credit hour program. Likewise, the Illinois Board of Higher Education has approved the conversion of the clock hour program to a credit hour designation. The Soma Institute has made an application to the U.S. Department of Education for Soma's new credit hour program to participate in Federal Student Financial Aid Programs. Sports Massage Certificate of Achievement
The Soma Institute offers students the chance to obtain a Sports Massage Certificate of Achievement, in addition to their Clinical Massage Therapy Diploma. To earn a Sports Massage Certificate of Achievement, students will need to meet the following educational requirements at the time of graduation:
- Students must have 100% attendance in their CMTP class, and have an overall grade of 70% or higher in CMTP.
- Students must have 100% attendance at either the Chicago Marathon or IGI Chicago Style Gymnastics Meet Event.
- Students must have 100% attendance during their Supervised Clinic Course, which includes clinics at Loyola University’s Athletic Training Facility.
Note: Any student who misses a class in CMTP, or Supervised Clinic, for any reason other than an approved leave of absence, will not be eligible to make up the attendance and will not be eligible to receive a Sports Massage Certificate of Achievement.
