Tips for Balancing Work & School

Tips for Balancing Work & School

Working full-time, maintaining friends & family, and making time for yourself can be a daunting task for anyone.  Try adding going back to school on top of that and you really have your hands full.  Since most of Soma’s students maintain jobs while they are going to school, we’ve put together 5 tips to help balance work & school life together!

Create a flexible schedule:  Choose weekend or nighttime classes if possible.  Create a routine that you can stick to, that takes into account both your professional and education life, along with your personal and family life.

Use a planner:  Make sure to use a planner to keep track of your busy schedule: class assignments due-dates, work assignments, family commitments, and even personal time.

Plan your academic path:  List your steps towards graduation or program completion: make a ‘goals’ lists and map out your entire program to build realistic expectations.

Make time for your friends & family:  Schedule a weekly—or even monthly—date night with your significant other.  Keep your calendar up to date with any family obligations.

Make time for yourself:  Especially if you are pursuing a career in clinical massage therapy, making time for your personal health is critical to a successful career.  To avoid burnout or stress, it’s important to make your physical and emotional health a priority: eat nutritious foods, drink plenty of water, make time to read or do your hobbies, get enough sleep, spend time with loved ones—anything that keeps you healthy and happy!

Juggling your new class schedule with your current work and family obligations can feel overwhelming—but embarking on the career of your dreams can be exhilarating!  The Soma Institute is here to help.  Soma offers an 11 and 15-month program tailored to our students’ busy lifestyles.    If you’re interested in learning more about The Soma Institute, call to speak to a friendly Admissions Representative at 1-800-694-5314.
