Tips to fulfilling your New Year’s Resolutions

Tips to fulfilling your New Year’s Resolutions

Don’t let your dream become another unfulfilled New Year’s resolution on your list this year.

According to British psychologist Richard Wiseman, typically every year only a mere 12% of people actually fulfill their New Year’s Resolutions.  That’s a pretty paltry statistic.  It’s not very promising for those of us who jump-in each holiday season with a long list of goals and plans for the following year—with surprising and misplaced confidence.  Cooking classes? Learn French? Quit Smoking? Career-Change?

Well, if you’re discouraged by the statistics, take comfort in the fact that Wiseman also compiled a list of tips that the 12% of people followed in order to achieve their goals.  Here are the top 5 tips Wiseman put together:

  1. Make only one resolution—and pick one that’s really important to you.
  2. Break down your goal into manageable, concrete steps.
  3. Go public: tell your family & friends, your co-workers & social networks.
  4. Document your journey with a journal.
  5. Create a list of all the ways your life will be once you’ve achieved your goal.
